Unless Amazon has already patched it, you can always jailbreak it and install koreader. I'm using it right now on my Paperwhite. It's a muuuch better reading experience.

It's an option for the non bundle if you deselect the 3 months of Kindle

Right, went deep into the rabbit hole on this one.

Look for the leather (plant or genuine) premium bundles and you'll get the 20% trade in promo.

Sorry for the URL spam but:

https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Kin...r=1-3&th=1

Is the 64GB version, there is a 16GB version that after the promo is about 250 USD. Here is my order for the 16GB:

Item(s) Subtotal:
$307.97

Shipping & Handling:
$0.00

Kindle Trade-In:
-$61.59

Total before tax:
$246.38

Doesn't seem to have the 20% off for the regular leather option, but the price is the same for premium leather.

I'm actually allergic to anything polyester so I'm kind of forced to go with geniune leather.

Does anyone use this as primarily a notebook? I think I'd have real value to have one of these for work but I've read that getting notes off of this and into something usable on a computer is a challenge. I prefer to take notes by hand but would then like to be able to organize it on my PC (mainly one note)

From all the reviews I've read on it, it's very basic functionality and awkward AF to sync. Bottom of the list for e-reader note taking and annotations. Personally I'm going to be using this for reading first and foremost and notetaking only very occasionally, which is what it is best for.

All the 10 inch plus alternatives (Boox, Remarkable) don't go on deep discounts nearly as often so will cost x2 to x4 the cost of this sale. From everything I've read if you're a notetaker and insist on e-ink, than you can start @ the Boox Air at 400 USD that is the same weight and size and go into the highest end of the color Remarkable Pro at @ 750 USD+.

Hate to be that guy but at those prices the iPad Pro is a much better choice because besides note taking you can do mind mapping and stuff too

You can do a ton more on any IPS/OLED tablet than any thing with an e-ink display, but of course those displays aren't e-ink. There is a reason people buy e-readers over using their ipads to read a book - same exact reasons people prefer to write notes on an e-ink display over an IPS/OLED display.

Yeah, seeing the same but figured I would ask. I don't think I'd justify a $400 note taking device so I was hoping someone would say if it's manageable. I wish the iPad (as mentioned here) wasn't so awkward for taking notes.

Think you're confusing this package deal (scribe plus cover and charger) with the scribe only offer.

This is great, thank you! Makes it cheaper than the posted deal.

The non-bundle was $217 out the door for me with trade-in but now I need to get a cover, so perhaps I should cancel it and just get the complete package. it's too early for me to be thinking.

I don't even see the option to select / de-select 3 month Kindle

i bought one when they first came out. read like 3 or 4 books. now it charges but it wont load into the menu. it somehow bricked itself. amazons solution ( slightly out of warranty ) is to give me 50% off a new one. if you buy one. get the warranty

I just wanted to add that you can get discount on certain bundles. I got the 32GB scribe with plant based leather folio and power adapter for $163.51

I used the GETKINDLE15 first then added my trade. I have an old non working kindle keyboard so they gave me $5 for it and the 20% off discount.

I bought the 16gb scribe and a 256gb nxtpaper. Returned the scribe. The key button on nxtpaper is a game changer.
