It worked fine initially but failed soon after the warranty period ends.

is it advisable, to stick a 2.5 inch ssd drive in this, and just use it as a USB back up drive? could there be any issues with heat?

a full size won't fit. Even if you could connect the connector to your full size drive, it would not have the power.

There is a POSUGEAR USB C 3.1 Gen 2 (ie 10 Gbps) ssd enclosure for $7.59, although sata III SSDs probably aren't going to go much over 5 Gbps....maybe you'll get 6 Gbps on this.

Do they even make a 6tb 2.5 inch drives? Even the 4 and 5 tb drives are what 12.mm thick, so only 4tb 2.5 ssd's are the only drives I can think of of hand that would fit in this .. All that said, I bit on this one too darn it. I must resist in the future..

Literally none. There are no 4TB hard drives that will fit this enclosure (at least with the top on). Also, all the 4TB 2.5" hard drives are SMR.

I bought two earlier in the year and both stopped working after three months of very light use. This put them out of return window but the manufacturer/vendor did refund when contacted. So good customer service, at least.
