These always have a "not normal" taste. And it's because the 2nd ingredient is beef hearts. When organs are added to an already heavily processed sausage, the result is often a NOT beef taste in the traditional sense.
I bought these once and will never buy again.

Beware: These are salt bombs. A 1oz serving has 770mg of sodium, or 32% of the RDA. And no wonder, there are 5 sources of sodium in the ingredients: Salt, Monosodium Glutamate*, Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Erythorbate and Sodium Nitrite. In fact, the major complaint on Amazon is how salty they are. The sodium doesn't bother me though because I have reverse sodium sensitivity. Sodium actually lowers my blood pressure so I eat about 3-4x the RDA daily. But for normal people, make sure to take some potassium supplements when you eat these. That'll help you urinate out some of the sodium.

* As a side note, MSG is actually healthy. First of all, decades of research around the world have found no ill effects. The initial positive studies have been debunked. The so-called Chinese Restaurant Syndrome was apparently a joke. The supposed Chinese-American physician who reported the case never existed and his name was meant to be a pun. MSG hysteria is often used by medical historians to illustrate bad science. Unless you have a rare allergy to MSG, you shouldn't feel any side effects.

Second, using MSG actually helps people lower their sodium intake. How can that be possible, you ask, if MSG has sodium? Well, a Swedish study found that adding MSG to soup allowed tasters to use 30% less salt without sacrificing taste. The amount of sodium in the MSG was far less than what's in the salt you leave out. The net result was less sodium in the soup.

Here are some FASCINATING articles about the MSG hoax that's still circulating today:

The biggest complaint seem to be how salty these are. That's fine since I plan to steam these in rice, which sends some of the salt into the rice. And you can't beat the price. For $6, it's worth a try.

I like these better than jack links, jack links taste fatty and sour and these do not, yes these are salty but that's a plus because the salt prevents me from finish the whole bag too quickly, unfortunately these are so addictive, I bought two bags using two Amazon accounts and both bags couldn't survive 24hrs, the fatty and sour jack links 20 sticks can last me several days cuz they are too fatty and I can't keep eating them

If you think that the MSG Chinese Restaurant Syndrome is real, you should read these articles. The hysteria is often used by medical historians and anthropologists to illustrate bad science tinged with racism.
