I bought the 159pc set to keep in my truck a few months ago because I didn't want to risk the theft of my more expensive tools. There is a lot of value in both the 159 and 230 piece sets for $99. These are great to keep in a vehicle, apartment dwellers, 1st time homeowners, a kid's 1st set, etc. I have used the set twice in the past few months and I consider that it has paid for itself already. Choose the form factor you like most. Both have been on continuous sale at $99 for the last few months at Amazon and Lowe's.

I feel like I see these all the time. I'm not a mechanic but always seem to need a ratchet with long sockets. Is this a great deal?

All 6 pt sockets, good set. I've got more tools than some dealers so I'm not getting more, but this is as good as it gets for starter set.

But this (159 piece) sale has 17 more standard sockets, and 8 more deep sockets.

The (230 piece) does have 9 more combination wrenches though.

Personally I use sockets more than wrenches, and I've got a million bits and hex keys already.

But are the extra sockets of a size that I might use? I don't know, but deep sockets are pretty sparse in my whole tool collection, so maybe...

That said, I've been trying to decide between these two, too. They 230 is on sale more often than the 159, but they both pop up a lot.

This is a very helpful comment. The piece count is always deceptive when they're counting little Allen bits and countless screw driver bits

Not a big deal but I wish kits like this came with two 10mm and 12 sockets
