Not sure what the deal is anymore with Royal Oak, I used to swear by them but they just don't get as hot or burn as long as they used too a decade ago. I switched to Cowboy brand which seems to last longer and get hotter

In my experience, the hottest charcoal is Kingsford Professional from Costco. It is the best bang for your satisfaction when on sale.

Weird you say this, I used to love their lump but have gone back to Kamado Joe's brand, as the bags are just full of dust the last few times.

YES!!! I bought 5 bags of the same charcoal the last time it was this price and was disappointed in the burn time. I gave away the last 2 bags.
