This needs to not show the fair quality price in the headline - you don't want a fair quality open box laptop.

16GB RAM. Meh
16GB on M series is a solid choice. That's more than enough for most people. That much ram is plenty with these processors.

yup I totally agree...24GB should be the minimum anyone that wants their macbook to be relevant 5 years from now. With the way macs memory switching work, it's better to have excess and not the minimum. A few years from now programs will use a bit more memory and so will the operating(upgraded) system. PPL don't just run out and replace their laptops often so I think 24gb should be the minimum.

No, ram is ram. There's no mac vs windows comparison -- unless you're trying to give yourself some good ol' confirmation bias. You know, gotta feel good about paying a lot of extra money to Apple for getting a lot less than anywhere else.

Not really. It def isn't equivalent to 32 but more than 16gb on an windows desktop simply due to different compression and resource management.

Same thing on Nvidia and Amd gpus. Amd pretty consistently uses about 10-15 percent more vram due to worse compression and Rebar being used in every game.

How much RAM should I get for picture editing in Light room, DXO or Topaz? My 2017 MacBook Air with 8GB won't even install the programs and I can't update the OS to Sequoia.

I say 24gb if budget allows. There's a mac @ microcenter (23' model) that I'm currently eyeing it has 36gb memory and 1tb m3pro for about 400 more. I think it is worth it, but I'm waiting for the m5 mac to drop to pick up an m4 48gb.

Same situation here. I'm using the same MacBook as you. It gets hot pretty quick. I think at least 24GB is future proof.
