Look at the Salvo, Guide, and Switchback models to fit your taste. The Switchback is the best budget hardtail deal I have seen all year:

Switchback 3 - https://www.mongoose.com/products...1361183900

$450, comes with a dropper, wide range microshift advent x 1x, WTB boost wheels that have a wide 30mm inner diameter, boost front and rear, hydraulic brakes, and trail worthy geometry.

Nothing comes close, not the OTR, not the Axum, not the Intrepid as of late. If you're in the market for a budget start, get this right now before the price goes away 7/7 or your size goes OOS.

Salvo 2 seems like a not bad deal for $800, but the 141 Boost QR rear may not be ideal for upgradeability down the line. Salvo 1 for $650 is a worthy mention versus the OT FS.2 Slalom.

Surprised this doesn't get a lot of attention. The switchback 3 is the best deal in the budget hardtail market right now. A comparable deal that comes to mind was Diamondback sync'r for $750 a couple of years ago.
