Today I roasted some tomatoes and shallots and garlic and threw it in this blender with some olive oil and and made a truly delicious pasta sauce with very low effort. You want to talk something with the power to do bisque or a really good smoothie, you simply cannot use a nutribullet to get this level of performance. Stronger motors, blades, and great product support. Not everyone needs a vitamix, but if you do...you will not regret it. Not everyone needs an f350 with a country lift, but if you plan on running it to 400k miles and doing farm work, you invest. This is quality equipment worth the investment if you are that kind of chef or a home cook with dreams.

I thought this too, until I got a vitamix. Now I pity people who have not experienced a proper blender.

I haven't researched this model but the cheap ones tend to burn out and overheat after 1-2 minutes of continuous run time. Plastic gears as well and then of course warranty. If you're blending smoothies it's not for you. If you make a lot of nut butters, soups, sauces, etc then the amount of times you'd replace a cheaper one, you'd already have spent on this.
Usually, if you don't know why, it's not for you.

what makes a $400 blender than a $40 blender?

Vitamix is the king of blender. It blends much finer than other brands like nutribullet. A total different level. Plus, vitamix has 10 years warranty. This tells u the quality.

It's a PITA, but it can make peanut butter from only peanuts. Part way into the second batch the Vitamix 5200 will overheat and won't turn back until it cools back down. Been overheating it about once a month for probably close to a decade and it hasn't died yet. I got it for something like $275 and they accidentally shipped the order twice. I sold the extra to my foodie friend for $275 which paid for mine. When there was a class action lawsuit over the container shedding plastic into your food, I turned in both serial numbers and received two new containers which I also sold. 😏 The blender came with a bunch of "this is a lifestyle" marketing BS which always means overpriced, but I can't argue with how bulletproof it has been.
I should also add that the small squared off containers like this one appears to have don't work as well as the tall one with the narrow base. At least not in my experience.

With the correct pitcher, you can make flour from grains or turn spices into powdered spices. You can use this pitcher to do most of the same but the correct one is smaller and has a different blade. My partner has a NutriBullet I use it as well when I'm just making a smoothie. Sometimes I make my smoothies in the Vitamix and I remember the difference... the seeds on strawberries and in raspberries or blueberries are gone as though they never existed. It is one smooth texture throughout. Even when it melts it doesn't really separate its been emulsified vs blended.

Well, I don't own one, but I do have a nutribullet. When making frappes or smoothies, I can never get all the ice. And it takes quite a bit of effort to get as much of the ice as possible. I imagine these will be make your smoothies jamba juice quality. LOL!

Is the pitcher glass or plastic? I have a Ninja (it was maybe $150 when I got it in 2021) and it's done a very good job with everything I've needed it to (smoothies, soups, etc.), but the pitcher is plastic. Besides a general desire to avoid as much plastic as I can, I've noticed that it's developed hairline cracks at the bottom. It doesn't leak profusely (or much at all yet), but those cracks are definitely there.

I used to think that until I got one on sale for $300.

It's a big, honkin powerful motor.
The blades?
They aren't blades.
They're DULL.
And HEAVY.
And that big honkin motor spins them with such force that nothing other thick wooden or metal rod will stop it.
It's designed like a device that's mean to last past 10 cheap blenders, just like they used to.
It has three controls.
How fast do you want it?
Do you want it on until you turn it off?
Or do you want it on only when you're pressing the button.
Nothing was spent of frivolities.
You get raw work and raw horsepower.

That is a different model, the Venturist, and less HP than the OP model, Propel Series 750. Vitamix has many models with different prices.
For example, here is the Series 510 model that's even cheaper ($299) than the Costco model you showed:

I bought a Propel 510 18 months ago for $299.99 and use it 8-10 times a week for smoothies. I love it; it's much better than our KitchenAid K400, which burned out after a few years.

The Propel 750 has .2 more horsepower than the 510.

Our Smoothies are as smooth as Jamba or Smoothie King. We've had Ninja and Nutribullets in the past. They don't hold a candle to Vitamix products. There's a reason foodservice exclusively uses Vitamix.

Actually the Venturist has same 2.2 HP but higher wattage motor, same 64 oz Jar capacity etc. Just seems to more modern (distal display). Venturist has a 10 year warranty vs this one which has 7 year. Also its sold by costco, some advantages there.

agreed once you go quality you never go back if you are serious smoothie enthusiast, and that's just the start.
