Was going to buy the M4 Pro from Costco today. Now I have to convince myself not to spend the extra $600 on this as I definitely don't need the upgrade, thanks.

Base 14" M4 Pro: 16GPUs/24gb/512gb. Already more than I really need. Graphics editing, casual gaming, mild audio work.

Also have a $150 rewards cert for Costco, so probably sticking with that.

You are better off with m4 pro with 48gb ram from microcenter for this price. It out performs this and you get more memory.

Yeah the memory bandwidth is about the same between each model (about double an m3 pro), but doesn't the m3 max have an extra encoder chip over the m4 pro? If so then there are some workloads where the max will be worth it.

I bought this deal a few weeks ago after trying to decide between this and a refurb M4 pro from Apple direct but with less RAM. Ultimately very glad I went with this 36GB one – my workload is infrastructure dev, so lots of containers, compilation, etc, so yeah the GPU is way overkill, but the memory bandwidth is important, and I'm able to max it out pretty frequently. I don't think I'd notice the slight speed bump between M4 vs M3... but I definitely would have noticed the slow down and swap if I didn't have as much RAM.
