N4020 Passmark is 1137, N4120 Passmark is 2462, 4020 is a 2 core 2 thread and 4120 is 4 core 4 thread. I know someone who is still using an older surface 5 that has similar specs to this. Run. Run for your life. Unless it's 50$ or something. Unbelievably slow and unusable. At least this has 8gb ram.

Not nearly as old as some might imagine. This model (Surface Laptop SE) launched in 2021. The price point was incredibly reasonable for a touchscreen laptop. The positioning was Surface touchscreen functionality in a new low price point (at under $400, well below the prior low-cost entry, the Surface Laptop Go).

The small, lower resolution screen and minimal CPU horsepower were understandable compromises to reach the target price point. However, the model was most let down by the RAM configuration options. The 4GB and 8GB RAM configurations arrived exactly when changes/updates to Windows 10 were making 8GB the new minimum configuration (generally recommending devices with greater RAM since more than 50% of system memory could be consumed at boot in an 8GB platform). Lacking an upgrade path, and given the state of Windows RAM utilization, these laptops were generally e-waste at launch.

They'll run basic office applications and/or very light browsing, and they are supported for Windows 11, but these are generally going to be a poor to frustrating Windows experience.

This seems like a really good option for a child's laptop, affordable and gets the job done.
