Isn't the $67.99 (Amazon) NM790 the better deal since it has Dynamic SLC using TLC cache vs the NQ780's Dynamic SLC using QLC cache? The specs show that the NM790 is a little faster.
Also, you can get the NM790 for $61.88 using 15% Capital One Shopping Rewards at Walmart (It shows "67.99 + $4.08 tax + free 4-5 day shipping + $10.19 Est. back in Capital One Shopping Rewards" for me, so $72.07 - $10.19 = $61.88).

You can put any NVMe M.2 SSD in an appropriate enclosure to be used as an external drive via USB. However, after plugging it in, you may be asked to format the drive first before using it. (Some NVMe SSD's come preformatted with NTFS for Windows.)

For Macbooks, plug in the external drive and use Disk Utility to format it. If you are going to use this only on your Macbook or any MacOS machine, you can format to APFS if offered. If the drive is going to be used with other computers that use Windows or Linux, best to format to exFAT.

thanks for posting OP .. here's a review of it, the review mentions no DRAM (I say this with apologies knowing it may start the " you need DRAM! " versus the "what are you crazy no you don't!" debates seen on here before )

Most people don't need DRAM, they are fine with HMB.

Down to $56. Still it's QLC. It's one of the latest wunder-QLC drives with all-drive caches, but you've got to wonder about the longevity and performance is going to suffer bigly on almost full drives.

You can get a MP44L at $57.49 which is TLC.
