Go with this... it's main disadvantages vs Air/Pro models is the non-laminated screen and only Pencil Gen1 support which kids will not notice. It has superior battery life and performance vs older Air models and I wouldnt even consider a $100-150 cheapo Android/Fire tablet as the parental controls and quality of apps on Android do not compare for children. I say this as someone who uses a Pixel phone and Lenovo Y700 tablet.

2nd this. I have a 2022 8inch Fire HD for my kid and that thing is painfully slow. And I have no faith with other Android tablets in this use case.

It still works but it's busting apart at the display and only has update 15 and iOS is currently at 18. For 11 years this thing has been chugging so the price/years used ratio new iPads are outstanding in my experience.
