Amazon also has a 40-piece set (DWA2T40IR) which is less expensive ($19.99 for prime day) and also has a much lower "typical" list price of $27.75 than this 35-piece set, which is "typically" $42.70. Can anyone explain the differences? Any reason to get this set over the 40-piece?

The 100 piece set you linked (DWA2FTS100) are mostly not Impact rated if you care about that, only 30 pieces are impact rated and most of them are just bits.

First little set I've seen with a few sockets. Perfect for a simple handyman bag. I'd more than likely put the redundant Phillip bits in storage and add a variety of other tips like torques
edit: read the description and see that it does have other bit types included
