I still have a couple of fully functional Chromecast Audios I'm using with older AV receivers. Would this really improve anything over those? maybe a higher end DAC? I would have to donate my old Harmon Kardan and Pioneer receivers 😀

Maybe. Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz apparently stream at higher bit rates to WiiM than they do CCA. And the DAC is meant to be better, particularly on the WiiM Amp Pro. But based on this 60-year old's ears, the difference wasn't noticable, and I returned and stuck with my CCAs.

Does anyone know how bad the latency is over Bluetooth? I have an older different device though them where it's awful.Additionally, does anyone know if you can use or add an independently powered sub to this?

If your TV has ARC or eARC, this is a fantastic way to improve the sound quality when combined with a decent set of speakers. It even has a sub-out.
I use it with a pair of Focal in walls for my normal listening where I do not want/need my full surround sound system.

Wasn't there a lawsuit from Sonos that had something to do with it? I'm normally the biggest hater of google for how they support hardware but I thought this particular one wasn't their choice?
