I am a former Lyft employee. I can confirm that having a balance in your Lyft account does NOT influence pricing, or at least it didn't when I last worked there in 2022. Say what you will about gig work etc, the company has a strong culture of ethics and doing the right thing.
Yeah I mean I know in my own personal experience seems like whenever I have a balance the prices are more/I don't get as many discounts as I typically seem to.
Lyft is frequently much cheaper than Uber in the Bay Area and other places. I always compare them (and use Obi app that automatically compares all local rideshare services).

Lyft is a scam. Prices are ridiculous in my area and fluctuate wildly minute to minute.
Scam seems like an extreme way to describe volatile supply an demand. I've seen prices vary too but its all relative to time of day and which city you are in.
Also note that Lyft GC DOES NOT combine with credits offered by credit cards. So the $10 monthly credit offered by Chase Sapphire Reserve can only be used without applying the GC to the payment.

might be area dependent. i have $200 uber credit and Ub's the around the same price as lyft in my area near FLL airport, but when I was in DC uber was consistently 10-20% more than Lyft, which might or might not be bc I have a balance.

not true. I link my account with chase freedom and BILT mastercard. After every ride paid with my gift card, i still get the total 5% reward points combined from chase freedom (2%)and BILT (3%)
