If I'm setting up a plex do I need the + or will the regular DXP4800 be good enough?

Are you planning to do transcoding? How many parallel streams? What quality media?

This is more than likely enough.

The base model is good enough unless you're going to go bonkers with HW transcoding, which FYI you need to have a PlexPass anyways to do it. But for normal operation, streaming to a TV, computer, phone, you should be fine with either models.

The key differences between the base and the plus model
10Gbe port + 2.5Gbe vs. 2x 2.5Gbe
8505 vs N100 cpu
2 ram slots (64GB max) vs 1 slot (16GB, theoretically, max)
128GB ssd vs eMMC with OS on it

If you're doing Plex, nothing about those differences is going to make a bit of difference in 99.9% of use cases.

Awesome! Thanks for the information. I'll go with the regular DXP4800.

LIterally, get a old PC, run a $60 license of Unraid and spend the rest on drives and you will come out with better far robust system that will do more than this ugreen unit.

Watch youtube there are ton of videos. Techhut, harware heaven are all good channels to learn.
IMO you dont't need to spend 500+ on a NAS per say if you want DIY cheaper solution.
Get on ebay and get a mini pc like HP elitedesk or Lenovo m series. https://www.servethehome.com/intr...evolution/ read this and watch their youtube series on this.
Get a used cheap NAS for disk. or use hard drive enclosures.
These cheap under 100 mini pc will have more power and expansion capability than these new NAS.
I have a synology 2 bay drive nas running 12tb drive in RAID it is pretty old model but cheap and well and just act as NAS (separation of concern). I run a Hp Elitedesk 800 series mini pc and proxmox on it to run jellyfin, complete arr stack, adguard, nginx proxy, home assistant, immich, notes sync and can run much more easily.

since this is slickdeals where we pay less I'd avoid unraid it comes with a yearly maintenance fee unless you get their lifetime at $250. My recommendation is Openmediavault (OMV) + CasaOS completely free. PM me if you need help.

Check on Reddit r/unraid board. They are really helpful. Let me know if you have any specific question.

I don't have one of these yet so I can't speak to them directly but I've been using a Mini PC with an Intel N100 CPU (which the regular DXP4800 uses) and it is amazing for Plex. Handles multiple simultaneous 4K transcodes without breaking a sweat.

This "con" is like saying you can build your own ebike to get the parts your want and cheaper or pay more for a prebuilt one. It depends on needs and whether you want a huge desktop or power hungry server chasis. Simple to say but harder to execute.

You are simply ill-informed. Feel free to try unraid before you chime in. My server sips in 25W on idle. I host my immich (Google Photo on your own server), Adguard and Tailscale VPN to name a few.

Not referring to the OS (Ugos, Truenas, Unraid), irrelevant to the hardware, which is what I'm referring to. Great you're getting 25W but what's the specs of the system? How many drives?
