The base model is good enough unless you're going to go bonkers with HW transcoding, which FYI you need to have a PlexPass anyways to do it. But for normal operation, streaming to a TV, computer, phone, you should be fine with either models. The key differences between the base and the plus model10Gbe port + 2.5Gbe vs. 2x 2.5Gbe 8505 vs N100 cpu2 ram slots (64GB max) vs 1 slot (16GB, theoretically, max) 128GB ssd vs eMMC with OS on itIf you're doing Plex, nothing about those differences is going to make a bit of difference in 99.9% of use cases.
So I was reading HW transcoding needs NVIDIA GPU. What if I have get an Nvidia shield , use that as the server and then attach this nAS to the network, is that too slow of a combo? Or do I need it all on one system/box?

If I'm setting up a plex do I need the + or will the regular DXP4800 be good enough?
Did you pay for lifetime Plex? Don't you have to pay monthly for remote viewing (unless you have a VPN setup)?

Maybe try Jellyfin fist since it's completely free.
Ugreen now has Jellyfin as an app to install so you just install and don't have to do any kind of configuration to get it to work.
Yes, Jellyfin supports hardware transcoding.
