Good deal in general but the CPU has 9 PCIe 3 lanes. For even the storage alone that just 2 SSDs worth of PCIe lanes (assuming PCIe 3x4)

Definitely one lane per drive, but you're not going to saturate that. I'm assuming the os drive is 2 lanes.

The 8 M.2 SSDs utilize an ASM2806 PCIe switch chip, meaning they aren't all directly connected to the CPU bus.

The ASM2806 has 2 PCIe 3 upstream lanes and 4 PCIe 3 downstream lanes. The maths on this is not good. Apart from power consumption I don't see why they didn't choose a CPU with more PCIe lanes. There is no way you don't have significant bottleneck. I would advice anybody considering this to watch/read at least 3 reviews before deciding if they are okay with the performance. I don't know a lot of about this NAS but the maths is not mathing.

That 10GbE port on the F8 SSD is no joke. Running it as a Plex server with 8x SSDs in RAID5, and here's the real deal:
Sustained transfers hover around 980-1020MB/s - basically maxing out the 10G link
4K random perf (~300MB/s) makes thumbnail generation buttery smooth
That PCIe switch intelligently staggers SSD access. It's not a brute-force solution, but for the price? Absolute steal compared to 'pro' NAS boxes costing 3x more.
