I havnt had this set but the poor case on the craftsman would steer me to this one. I had on older craftsman set where the case was great but newer one is cheaply made and annoying to use.

Also don't like the screwdriver that came with new craftsman set. Was a socket end and you had to use the 1/4 socket to use any of the screw driver tips. No magnet so they don't set well.

Assuming you're talking about the 230 piece craftsman for $99.

Unless things have changed recently, the 192 has always been regarded as the most desirable due to having the most and best sockets. The 204/5 and the 247 are both considered good sets but a slight notch below the 192.

Why do all these sets still have SAE tools when all cars have been metric since the 1980's? The value would be so much better if these sets were all Metric.

Someone always has to say this. Cars are not the only thing people use sockets for. There are still plenty of things that are made in the USA and manufactured in freedom units.

to be fair here, this is a "mechanics tool set"
I also attempted to search for a metric only set after seeing this deal. It's common enough to need metric-only for vehicles specifically in my opinion.
I don't think a sentiment would be SAE tools or kits existing is bad. However many folks, myself included, would like a metric only set since the SAE tools and bits are not useful for the mechanic work I need to perform on my vehicles.
I am looking for a set I can put in the back of my vehicle for long trips where I may need to make small repairs. I have a large combined set at home in the garage. Just a note why it may come up so commonly as a desire.

I have a huge assortment of Craftsman from decades ago when they were excellent quality tools made in the USA. These days I won't buy Craftsman because of how far the brand has fallen in quality. Given the choice, I'd buy this $99 Dewalt set or the Channellock set for $85. In my opinion, both will be head and shoulders above Craftsman in quality.

Agreed. Lawn and garden equipment is still vastly assembled with SAE fasteners, as are plumbing, pneumatic, and HVAC fittings. Not to mention fencing hardware, cargo trailer hardware, self drilling screws, lag bolts, etc. The list goes on and on, and the only real option for the DIYer is to have both SAE and metric sets. The overwhelming majority of automotive fasteners are now metric, so if that's all I use them for I can see getting by with metric sets only. I don't see standardization to metric happening across the board in my lifetime.
