the wifi version doesn't have PoE support, no zoom, telephoto lens is fixed 6x @1080p, which is quite a step down from RLC-823S1 with 5x optical zoom @8MP

no POE but does have zoom. I have 2 of these and my only grip is the range. it's terrible. 100ft away and it times out 7 out of 10 connections. 40ft away, it's great but anything more... mehhh... I find this is the problem with all Reolink wifi cameras. range is short even if it's paired with a Home Hub Pro and don't get me started on Home Hub Pro and the firmware issues. if I had known all this, I would have stuck with Eufy for wifi cameras. Reolink really excels in the POE cameras though and honestly, if you want pure security, POE is the way to go if you can get the cable to where you want/need it

I have the POE version and it doesn't properly move back to home after tracking an object which makes it kinda suck.

Nailed it! This is essentially why I gave up with this stuff and am slowly going all in with Ring. Local storage and full control and no subscriptions sounds nice, but when it comes to reliability, and instant notifications, Ring is king.

My Reolink cameras occasionally need to be reconnected to WiFi. Good if I catch it before a trip. Bad when Im 3,000 miles away and my camera went offline.

I want this camera, because on paper it a better deal than the Ring Floodlight Pro (2k) that I just got for the same price. But in practice, $99/yr for all my cameras is not too shabby.

I've had two different products from this company and the range, detection, constant disconnection, delays loading live view or recorded instances and notifications were so horrible that I didn't even feel right selling it as used on the marketplace, tossed them. Since then moved to Eufy with wired doorbell, wired flood light and several battery-based cameras and everything has been on point, 3 years in.

I have this camera and it's great and I never have issues with notifications or Wi-Fi. I use the android APP on my phone. Zoom works great. Also have another older camera RLC-523WA that works flawless for years.

Not quite right. The telephoto lens is optically (not digitally) fixed at 2.6x with a 1080p resolution, and can digitally zoom to 6x. The wide angel lens has a resolution of 8MP or 4k, and is indeed static at 0x zoom.

It also does have PoE support, which can be seen on the manual from Reolink:

https://manuals.plus/wp-content/u...Camera.jpg

The RLC-823S1 has a slightly different use case, and is also $65 more. If your goal is to check up on things around the house, both will do that. If you need to view plate numbers at night, 100ft away, neither will do that.

Also, the optical zoom on the 823 is manual, and isn't really useful unless you are manning the camera, while the Trackmix can focus and zoom in on an object to record automatically.
The Trackmix can also see UNDER itself, while the 823 cannot. The Trackmix also has far superior auto tracking for some reason, and re-homes after tracking MUCH better. No idea why Reolink hasn't addressed this with other models, but it is what it is.

The only reason I would get a 823 over a Trackmix, is if you are manually looking around an area. For basic unmanned home security, the Trackmix is the better option.

If you want 4k autotracking without the auto-zoom feature that the Trackmix has, and still have the ability to optically (manually) zoom, the E1 Pro is probably a better option than the 823.

Especially since it's about $85 cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/REOLINK-Se...B0C27ZY3R5

Ring as in wifi only? Are you serious? What's the local storage and no subscription you are referring to?
