VERY nice deal for "12" movies since you're getting both the extended and theatrical.

Only the commentaries. You need to buy the individual BluRay sets of LotR or Hobbit to get the Appendices where the meat of the extra features are.

The digital copy in Fandango, probably also Apple, has the special features. I'm wonder if the digital copy is still valid to redeem.

I bought the 4k set for LOTR last year. Those 4k discs are bare bones on special features. And each movie is split across 2 discs. Not exactly the optimal viewing experience.

It should be. Think this is a newer set and the image of the box says the digital can be redeemed until 3/31/2027.

TBF the extended edits are some long azz movies. Awesome though ofc.

I would argue rather have two disc than some three layered single disc.
They are also good positioned snack/restroom break on a 3+ hour movie.

I have the special features on BD, don't need them in 4k especially if there would be an extra cost.

Over time I've acquired 3 movie Blu-Ray sets (4k ultra HD) of both Hobbit and LoTR. Both came with special discs and commentaries and they are beautiful. I spent less than 30$ for each (I'm sure I got them both for just over 20 but I'm being very conservative). Considering this, the price shown here to combine all the movies in one cardboard enclosure doesn't sound like it is worth 50 to 70% more? I think not.

I'm new to buying blu-rays/4K discs, but want to get this as an "heirloom" item for when I eventually set up a home theater system. How does this package compare to: https://slickdeals.net/f/18446074-prime-48-99-the-lord-of-the-rings-the-motion-picture-trilogy-4k-uhd-blu-ray-extended-theatrical-at-amazon
Seems like this is a better deal to also get the Digital Codes AND additional films?
