"A missed opportunity."

"I collect Disney books as a hobby. I pre-ordered this book last July and have been eagerly awaiting it ever since. This should have really been something special to add to my collection. I am so disappointed. The book is ruined by bad graphic design, writing, and just a general waste of space and opportunity.
There are some really poor design choices like putting a large "100" behind the body text on every page, which makes the book difficult and unpleasant to read. The writing is uninspired and feels like I'm reading Disney advertising copy. In the introduction it is explained that they chose not to present the Disney story in a chronological manner as that would fail to capture the magic. Well, whatever order they picked ended up feeling random and disjointed. There are a few nice photo selections I hadn't seen before, but the majority are the same images from many other books.
The worst offense, though, is the unforgivable waste of space. Giant fonts, huge margins – it feels like they were trying to bump up the page count by making everything take up more room. Too many pages are wasted on one sentence quotes that take up a whole spread. Too much advertising content devoted to recent Disney projects like Wakanda and Strange World, not enough about the significant history of the company. They also wasted the special fold-out spread on an illogical, incomplete chronology instead of on some beautiful artwork or something that would really maximize the space.
This all might seem very picky, but Disney used to release absolutely beautiful books. Check out the WDW 10th anniversary book as an example. Despite being a huge Disney book collecter and fan I am returning this one. I just can't get past the feeling that the book is a giant waste of paper and ink, inside of a pretty, shiny cover."
