Got mine @ $209 almost exactly a year ago. Absolute beast of a sander. Night & day next to a conventional random orbit sander - even one of the better like Bosch's own ROS20VSC.

I didn't get it last year because I didn't think I'd need it. A month later I was kicking myself because I needed it. Been waiting for it to drop back down and getting it this time around. The forced random spin without needing pressure and increased power are what I want it for, over my normal sized orbital sander

Just curious, why is this so expensive compared to the others like dewalt?

Because the closest competition is a ~$700 Festool ROTEX RO 150.
This isn't your typical $40-140 random orbit sander. It's a gear-driven eccentric orbit sander, which means it's significantly more aggressive, with much faster material removal. In other words: much less time spent sanding... and 'time is money', as they say.

Buy through aafes affiliate HD portal and they should waive sales tax! Think they added more items beyond appliances very recently. Worth checking.

This price isnt that crazy it was floating around 250 for ages. Id been pondering this and the larger drywall sander for the better part of a year. The drywall sander never hit a price I wanted and seems they've all but removed it, save for some refurbished units

Good deal for a great Festool killer. Check out reviews online. Basically it is as good or better than the Rotex and 1/3rd the price. https://youtu.be/hL18cCBHnME?si=xFhlVl7XDUElpBmX

So, so tempted. Kicking myself for just buying a basic 5" Ridgid a month or so ago.

I bought one last year, but it vibrates like crazy and my hands go numb using it. and it is LOUD, louder than every tool in my shop including my dewalt planer... plus it's insanely heavy, do people use it one handed with a vacuum hose? I'd have to work out to do that...

Is something wrong with mine? Or is that how they all are? I really want to like mine but it's hard to, even with the rotex mode (which is a beast admittedly)

The one I initially received had a pretty loud/unhealthy 'rattling' noise to it. Got an RMA/swap and the second one sounds much better, but it's still a pretty loud tool regardless - not something I'd recommend using without ear protection.
...but yeah, I meant 'beast' in multiple regards - they are fairly heavy, and the geared eccentric orbit is super aggressive so it'll take you for a ride if you don't hold it securely, and/or throw whatever you're working on if it's not secured.
I think the Festool is a bit more 'refined' in terms of balance/vibration, but I wasn't about to throw ~$700 at a sander.
