Is it even doing any filtering at all at 1200GPD? The amount of containments being rejected is inversely related to the flow rate (GPD).

They did lab testing on multiple RO units and this is one of the top units. They only reduced its rating due to cost, as it is one of the most expensive DIY undersink units. There are also 3 filters in this unit that will cost you ~$200/yr to replace.

The g3p600 performs similarly with the main downside being a slower flow. It's currently on sale for $400 and the filters are ~$160. For the price of the x12 you could get that unit and 3 years of filters and the water would be of similar quality.

If you have really bad water the x12 might be better due to the 'dual flow' where you can hook your main faucet into the unit and it dispenses sediment filtered water (prior to RO stage). For most people that's probably unnecessary though.

What is the maintenance like on these? How do you know when to "replace" parts of the filter or whatever?

ignoring the alkaline bullshit, the RO system itself is still really good lol. Taste like the water you get from the water store.

No maintenance except for filter changes. I have had the 3p600 for a couple years. There are 3 different filters - with an average life of 6, 12, and 24 months respectively. The unit will alert you at those intervals for each specific filter.

The actual filter change process is quite straightforward - you unscrew the old filter by turning it counterclockwise 90° and screw the new one in.

When isntalling, make sure the filter drain tube is raised above your sink drain / garbage disposal waterline (similar to your dishwasher drain hose).

Filter maintenance cost is about $193 per year.
Filter Replacement Costs / Period:
F2-PRO $39.99 6 Months/1,200 gallons (pre-sediment & carbon block)
F1A $32.99 12 Months (activate carbon & alkaline PH+)
F3 $159.99 24 Months/2,900 gallons (reverse osmosis)
Main filtration unit and faucet will blink yellow and beep 2x when it is time to replace (15 days / 40 gallons remaining).
When 0 days/gallons remain, the system and faucet blink red and emit constant beeps when getting water.
