I bought this today.

I have a red one that has been going strong as a backup drive (not used much) for two years. I thought it had fried but it was actually the cable that went - drive is still working perfectly. Great price for a fast and small drive with decent storage.

Never mind, proprietary board and not an NVME SSD with a USB C adapter. Boo.

No, these aren't meant for archival use, they need power to refresh the NAND or they will lose the data eventually

I would use multiple different kinds of devices + encrypted cloud storage, and you need a solid plan, account for fires / floods / other natural disasters and so on

Duuuuuuuuude ((or maam)) you just made my life 4x more complicated lol
I was choosing to avoid those complications but I did not oversee the possibility of them.
As of now, i have em store in an SD that i use for my phone
2 of these portable SSDs
Nd on a 1TB tablet
Thats as far as im willing to go tho, paying for cloud storage is nd can get expensive
I have about 500 GB of photos nd vids im really trynna take care of till i hand em over to the next Gen in my family

My T7 2TB arrived yesterday, I paid a similar price for the T5 500GB back in 2018, so getting 4x the storage at the same price is valid for me. Worth noting that when I transferred about 250GB data from my old T5 to the new T7 last night, the T7 got quite hot while the T5's temperature barely changed. Guess that's the price for the speed.

Upload and download is also a factor. T5 may not have got hot because it's uploading info while T7 is downloading and writing information.

Why get this over one of those WD Elements type external drives? Price per TB doesn't compare so what value does this give that one of those doesn't?
