Curious why that matters to anyone, cable too short? It's not like that cable is optional so if it's long enough for your system making it modular is pointless.

As an aside, I regard this as missing info in the post:

I'm actually planning to build new PCs for both my brother and myself, and I had my sights set on this PSU till I realized it was somewhat semi-modular based on the 24-pin ATX power cable being attached to the PSU. Due to that inherent spec, I opted for buying 2x EVGA SuperNova 1000 G5s on eBay and I was able to negotiate w/ 2 different sellers in order to buy them at $85 each w/ free shipping.

OOS at Amazon.

Thinking about pulling the trigger at NewEgg. But… I thought EVGA was done selling new products? I have to imagine that means we won't get the full warranty period to RMA it if something goes wrong.

So you're saying we should avoid this then?

Do you have a newer-gen power hungry gpu? I think the ATX 3.0 spec ensures that the transients don't cause failures like you described. Older power supplies might exceed the spec, but at least for newer psu's it's a good certification to look for. I don't see mention of ATX 3.0 (or 3.1) on the Newegg page for this psu

This is an amazing deal. Wouldn't even worry about an EVGA psu failing, none of mine never did.

It can make initial cable routing and installation a bit easier, but IMO that's a pretty minor selling point.

I think they are done with graphics cards. Usually things like power supply they contract it out to ODM like seasonic to manufacture for them.

I miss Johnny Guru's site.
I recall he actually got hired by a PSU firm.....so he could not maintain his site anymore.
