Often, when you try to get parts for them, they're non existent, or out of stock for months at a time.
If you're looking to save money, get a Shark Navigator when they're on sale.
If you want a good vacuum, get a Miele, Sebo, or Riccar.
I've been thru 3 of them over the course of 7 years. Its always the motorized brush head that stops working for me. And the replacement cost is $130 to $170. Just buy a new vacuum for that price.

I'm a convert. If Dyson has a major weak point, it's the batteries on the cordless models, but at least they have a 2-3 year warranty, cheap generics, and also conversion kits for common household Li-ion batteries.
Had the motorized head start to have serious issues and they wouldn't just send a new head. Made me ship the entire unit in. I could understand and did. However, they somehow ended up shipping the unit back to a 6 year old address in a different state that didn't match any of the information provided. I also found out about this after 6 weeks of being told it was still being repaired, and that they lied when they told me it was still being repaired a few days after it was actually delivered and was told to continue waiting. Then they blamed me despite showing them all the previous transcripts and told me to drive to the next state and get it. Finally got them to cut that out and they asked for me to wait another few weeks while they did a UPS investigation. After about 10 weeks without the vacuum they finally sent me a new replacement vacuum, but I spent quite a few hours dealing with them and UPS to get to that point.
At this point I would probably only consider buying Dyson through Costco or Sam's Club where I could just return the unit rather than dealing with their incompetent repair/warranty system. Granted then the price is probably too high to be worth it.
