How does this compare to an iPad gen 11 that was recently available for $275 (assuming main benefit is the M2 processor)
We have both in our household. The cheaper version has much better battery life. M2 drains battery faster. Depends on how you're going to use it. I'd say the base A16 will be fine for most people using a tablet to stream, browse, minor games, take notes, procreate.

okay, so is it a no-brainer to spend the extra 75$ to get the ipad air m3 right??? (currently 480 before tax- here in CA it comes out to $520).
what am i losing out on if i save 75$ and get the m2 air?, feature-wise....
so torn as I don't get student discount and I really could put that extra 75$ towards a keyboard/case and/or a pencil! any advice appreciated.

With an app name like Procreate, it's best to put a verb in front of it π

just putting it out there....
RedMagic is coming out with their new tablet on July 15. Currently you can get it for $521.
It is a 9.06" OLED 165Hz 1600nits, Snapdragon 8 Elite (slightly faster then the M2 but WAY more efficient), 12GB/ 256GB no micro Sd card and 80 watt fast charging... For $521 ($550 + $1 - $30).
There is a jerryrigeverything video of this tablet and they suggest purchasing a screen protector.
Other nice features is it has USB-C 3.2 (so it can do HDMI out) and you can use as a TV box.
Redmagic is owned by ZTE. What gets me excited about this tablet is that I love the small size power house form factor. You can buy side joysticks and emulate almost everything. And I believe you will get either 3 or 5 years of updates... most likely 5. Recent regulations introduced by the European Union (EU) mandate that smartphone and tablet manufacturers must provide software updates for a minimum of five years from the date of the last unit's sale. This policy, part of the Ecodesign Regulation, came into effect on June 20, 2025. Tablet is being released on July 15th.

I personally purchased one. And what is special about Android... ALL UNETHICAL except maybe number 1.
With Firefox browser you can install UBLOCK ORIGIN extension, which is the best add blocker in the world. NO MORE POPUPS.
Many people like to tinker with Youtube Revanced
Reddit has the piracy list of sites where you can stream EVERTHING... it is kind of broken down into three major categories Main Stream, Anime and Cartoons. With Ublock Origin, it is better then Netflix. Over two hundred links to stream from including live sports ect...
There is a way you can install a paywall bypass through by downloading extensions to fire fox.
There are youtube videos that show you step by step how to install a paywall bypass or youtube revanced.
