This would probably make a zippy little Linux/batocera drive. At the higher capacities you may be better off getting an nvme and an enclosure.

Does anyone know a dual USB-A/C drive with a similar price point and performance?

I just picked one of these up and I'm getting around 450 mb/s read/wite speed on USB 3.1. Should be even faster on USB 3.2.

I tested it on my rear USB 3.2 ports, crazy speed for such tiny device:

Gen 1 is on sale too. Unless you have the latest usb, it is all you need.

Here's a breakdown:
USB 3.2: This is the umbrella term and also refers to the newer specification that utilizes multi-lane operation (Gen 2x2) to achieve 20 Gbps transfer speeds, but it's important to remember that USB 3.2 also encompasses the older 3.0 and 3.1 specifications.
USB 3.2 Gen 1×1: This is the same as USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1, offering 5Gbps.
USB 3.2 Gen 2×1: This is the same as USB 3.1 Gen 2, offering 10Gbps.
USB 3.2 Gen 1×2: A new specification, offering 10Gbps using two lanes.
USB 3.2 Gen 2×2: The fastest, offering 20Gbps and requires a full-featured USB-C cable.
USB 3.0: Also known as USB 3.2 Gen 1, it offers a maximum transfer speed of 5 Gbps.
USB 3.1: Also known as USB 3.2 Gen 2, it offers a maximum transfer speed of 10 Gbps.

How does it do on the full drive - 256gb. Those are too small of transfers to be representative

How long can it sustain those speeds? Does it throttle down when it starts getting hot?

That's single file. Look at the random 4k - 9MB/s. Still better to do 2230 in external enclosure where you genuinely get 600MB/s in real world transfers. The drives are dirt cheap on eBay also. I pay $10-15 per 256gb

thanks for insights. but i though an old usb-3 9 pin connector will be the bottleneck,
so you'll enjoy that 2230 if it's connected to the hardware via a usb-c 24-pin port.
i could be wrong, and as you suggest the UHS-I bus of micro-sd is the bottleneck.
