FYI, do not use these on cast iron pans. They will scratch them, and those scratches will rust.

If they are pure copper ones then it's not possible for them to scratch cast iron. The problem is that most are copper coated carbon steel which will scratch your pans and disintegrate quickly.

No, the scratches are to the seasoning on the pan that prevents it from rusting. If you scrub too aggressively it'll remove the seasoning and rust in those areas.

I don't think it should be a problem, though, just that you shouldn't be scrubbing too hard, just enough to get the surface bits off the pan. I use chainmail which is far more likely to scratch the seasoning off without issue.
