So glad to hear you say this! I was debating b/t the 2 over prime days, and jumped on the updated 86U Pro to replace my 86U and so far it is amazing. Very happy with my purchase. Very stable and awesome coverage for us!!

Bottomline I'd say try it at this point and watch out for stability and high cpu usage. These should be fixed by now (liability and brand damage if Asus keeps shipping out crap). If high cpu do the patch and full reset and see if it helps. This might be all too much work for a premium product, but will leave this up to you. Also I typically setup a weekly reset to clear any memory leaks or other issues with caching etc. I wonder if some of the issues with this router are with WiFi 7 being imature (or Asus implementation). I've seen issues with older WiFi devices, e.g. Hisense TV, not connecting when the router is configured in WiFi7 mode. Also running it in WiFi6e is as fast and more stable. Finally the separation of guest and IoT networks causes issues with some products like Eufy cams not able to be viewed live unless connecting from an external network. Combining all devices into 1 network vs having separate IoT and main WiFi fixed this.
I ended up buying the more expensive Asus WiFi router and saw a lot of similar WiFi 7 issues. Maybe just me. I mention this also because of the single 10gbe port vs 2x in the more expensive Asus router. This was the first <$250 router with 10gbe. This is either a non issue or a problem. If you have 10gbe home network like I do then I use the 10gbe port of the router to connect to the LAN then remap a 2.5gbe port to the WAN / ISP modem. If your ISP speed is <2.5gbe then no issue. Same goes if your LAN is 2.5gbe or less and your ISP > 2.5gbe no issues. But if you need 10gbe for ISP and LAN then you need to buy more expensive router with 2x 10gbe like I did. I had 1gbe ISP earlier this year and last month new ISP became available in my area so I upgraded. I get 8gbps directly at the router port using internal speedtest (not sure why not 10gbps but its plenty fast and not sure I see the differece between 1gbps vs 10gbps unless lots of users downloading). So on this point it depends on your network / isp / usage. But one thing to consider is with Asus mesh you can still use this router (or any Asus router with mesh) as an mesh node if you upgrade to a more powerful Asus router later. Given newness of WiFi7 and >1gbe LAN and cost delta buy what you need and upgrade later, when prices come down.
Interested to hear what experiences others have. Also wanted to add that new 3rd party / opensource FW (think Merlin) is available in beta when I last checked. So there is hope for more stability / features. In my experience the official Asus FW has been good enough in the past and I like the mobile App for managing it. So never felt the need to try non stock FW in a long while (I used to mod the TMO 1900 router to full Asus FW).
