Ryobi can be hit or miss, but we have both the standard and brushless versions of this saw and no complaints about either of them.

looking for a cordless reciprocating saw, how does this compare with the dewalt? I want something that will last at least 5 years (10 years better), not as a daily use but for home projects and crafts.

Mine is 20 years old, and it's blue! Get the newer yellow brushless and use 4ah hp's, and you'll be a diy contractor!

I have both DeWalt dcs387 and this Ryobi and both are solid. The Ryobi also makes good present to many homeowner friends that are not into diy. I mainly now use the DeWalt one as it is more maneuverable. One thing to keep in mind, the non brushless version uses batteries quickly. I was just removing some brush and it used up a 5Ah battery in two hours.

I've had this saw for ~3 years and it's great for dyi use. Don't listen to people who talk about Brushless, this will absolutely do. I've abused mine badly, cutting through roots in the rain etc. if it doesn't perform it is more likely to be due to the blades.
