Great series but I'd recommend the anime adaptation. The music is amazing, the animation is still really good, and the voice actors are excellent. It's one of my favorites and I rewatch it every once in a while. There is very little reason to pick this up over that unless you dislike that medium.
Great manga that I read back in the days of Mixxzine all the way to the end. Unlike so many endings to series nowadays, there was a fully satisfying closure to this show and did not need any "subverting expectations" BS to be engaging.
Similar in vein to Inuyashiki with an extraterrestrial symbiotic upgrade done to multiple humans, where what happens is dictated on the thoughts of the hosts.
The anime is very good, and like FMB Brotherhood, is a faithful retelling of the manga. You cant go wrong with either route. The music and chosen VAs were very good and had alot of emotional range to their voices, which you totally need for this show.
A non sequitur, but the season when Parasyte the Maxim came out (in fall 2014), you had some serious bangers come out that are on my top 20: Fate/UBW, Amagi Brilliant Park, Tokyo Ghoul, Your Lie in April, and the surprise of the season...the Fruit of Grisaia, which would also bring the other series of the VN...man...we ate good that year.
