These are pretty good. Exact model is used at some universities.

I remember when I used to buy and use trash soldering stations like that. They are okay. Once I picked up a Metcal MX-5210, I couldn't believe the POS stations I had been using all along. Eventually, I'll upgrade to the CV series. I would suggest buying a Metcal, even if it's used, over these cheap stations. It will probably still work for another 20yrs. My MX will solder 2AWG wire using a high-temp chisel tip as if it's 24AWG wire.

The newer style soldering irons with the heating element built into the tip are so much better than this older style.

I bought one in 2024 and have used it several times for motorcycle wiring repair and feel it is a good product. I believe I paid around $35. Would buy again.

Could you please give examples of good value models?
I'd be willing to pay ~$100-150 for a quality station.

$1000 like someone suggested above is too much for a hobbyist IMO. You gotta be making money with the tool at that price range.

I have Hakko FX888DX-010BY - Digital Soldering Station. It's way better than any sub $25 60-80watt garbage soldering irons on Amazon. Hakko keeps the heat way better, which allows you to keep from getting connectors or wires hot for too long.
