Better screen, but a lot less longevity. Samsung is no good at optimizing hardware that isn't its latest and most premium. Android 16 will bring a lot lag and stuttering to this tablet. I'm not an Apple guy, but the iPad A16 will still be reliable after Samsung has EoL'd this tablet.
I do like 16x10 screen on the tab plus though, because I watch a lot of videos.
What exactly will Android 16 bring that causes lag? Most people on OneUI 8 beta with pre release builds noticed increased performance, with one factor being the switch to Vulkan.
Of course I would have agreed with you completely a few years ago but Android devices have changed and Samsung has switched to the 7 year update policy. Are you sure you are not an Apple guy?

I mean sure it would have been cheaper if you bought it at full price instead of on Slickdeals since the sale price for the S10+ is $550 without new user discount and M4 iPad Pro is $850 and still has 256GB.
Not sure what applications you use that would benefit from a faster CPU than a D9300+ (which is already more than enough for daily tasks, just like the A14 base model iPad) but you do you buddy.

I think OneUI 7 is an in-between upgrade for Samsung, which is kind of a let down. They released it so far after A15's launch and now they have finally caught up with A16, which is why it's being released so soon. As usual you shouldn't have to do this but clearing the cache partition and running the app booster helps a lot.
My S22+ from the New Year is still not as smooth as my Pixel 9 or Metro iPhone 13 but it's good enough. I'm probably going to get annoyed with the micro stutters over time and switch back though.
Also wondering why you would need multiple tablets unless it was from another family member that preferred the other OS. Both of my other devices have good trade in values.
I still think the S9 or S10 is worth the increase in price because like you said the better CPU will hold up over time to updates, and the 120hz OLED is great if you are like me and only use your tablet for media/web browsing.
Better app ecosystem is still debatable... Especially considering most people use their tablets solely for media consumption and web browsing, both of which are better on either FE or regular S models (OLED + 120hz) until you get to the Pro, which is $300 more than the S10+. Instagram still isn't available on iPads iirc and certain people would primarily use it just for apps like those so I think the broad statement is overrated and has a lot more nuance than people think.
I get why they do since off SD it makes very little sense to not get an iPad but the fact is this is SD and the base iPad is just alright on the deal o meter. Both it and the one in this post have drawbacks and upsides and are comparable.
Same missing nuance with Pixel tablet. On the surface it seems like a midrange tablet with nothing appealing but a lot of users find value in the dock, since they use their tablet off and on it might be discharged when they would normally pick it up. Google canceled the second iteration but not the third, so there might be a future. It's very comparable to the base iPad 10/11 and was much cheaper as it was free with iPad 6 trade in a year ago. Essentially making it < $100 and still the best value tablet in existence. Now it's just OK around $250.
Having basic extensions like on a real desktop makes such a difference to usability. iPadOS 26 also seems to be bringing things more in line with what Samsung has for many years now so it's great for them but nothing new if you are used to both platforms...
