I will never not be mad that Apple deliberately switched [wikipedia.org] the mic and ground contacts to break compatibility with other devices, then used a different scheme for volume control. Among the other big brands, I think only Samsung and Bose were ever brave enough to release earbuds with Android volume buttons (Bose had to offer two lineups), while everyone else played it safe with single-button for the lowest common denominator, or at best had an analog slider. Earbud selection is still hobbled by those decisions to this day.

Wow things are becoming obsolete so quickly.
I threw a lot of them in the library to recycle electronics a year or so back, I showed my kids my MP3 player Sansa Sandisk and they were like what's this device.
I don't think any of the recent phones have a 3.5mm jack anymore.
