I have a Mercer Renaissance 10" chefs knife that I really enjoy. The Renaissance series has some nice touches...rounding the spine (top edge) to make it more pinch grip friendly. The handle has a nice feel and looks just like my Henckels knives.

If you don't sharpen you're knives at home I'd consider something else. If I recall correctly these a couple points softer on the hardness scale than the German brands. This means they won't hold an edge as long, but are easier to sharpen. They are more tailored to the professional chef who is going to sharpen often, as much as daily. But if you're a home chef it might take months to equal one day of use in a professional kitchen. I bought mine 6 months ago and have sharpened it once. I basically just use this and one other knife (crazy sharp / hard / delicate Japanese knife).
