I got one and returned it. You have to rip off the rubber feet to open it and they won't re-adhere. I applied the bios update for it to support nvme, since it comes with a sata drive. Bios download was a 3rd party file hosting service, not the manufacturer. Bios saw the nvme drive but windows couldn't see it to install to. Runs hot, makes a lot of fan noise.

It's also where I found out that most of these minipc companies are the same outfit. Box had kamrui on it, support replied from a GMKtek account, and when I returned it the address went to an Acemagic location.

I then wrote a perfectly fair review of my experience, and kamrui had amazon remove it for "not meeting community standards". Which is not unique when it comes to these products. About 90% of the critical reviews I bought were either removed or the manufacturer offered me money to delete the review. They also do not allow an ebay buyer to review the product.

So those great reviews, and the lack of complaints, and people suggesting that problems with these devices are rare, don't believe them.

The only one that hasn't sucked is minisforum. I've never dealt with their customer service, but the products I own don't have compatibility problems nor do they overheat.

Is this a good device to make a home server for photo management? I have a 4tb external hard drive that I have been backing up my photos with. I need to be able to browse the photos from various devices. I have an older Synology that has the same backups but browsing on it is unbearably slow.

Consider whether this can sustain 24x7 operation. Although I didn't have a failing mini PC power adapter, I did have at least one failing/problematic 12v power adapter for my cable modem. Another thing is whether to run an external desktop hard drive 24x7. I had one Seagate external desktop HDD connected to a raspberry pi as NAS (with ext4), and it eventually failed after about 5 years and something. This isn't too bad, considering that the disk and enclosure isn't designed for 24x7 operation.
It would be nice if someone can educate me whether those purpose built NAS use only components that can do 24x7.

Since your backing up your photos, be sure to have a backup plan for when your HDD fails. You will have disk failures since those don't last forever.

I've been looking to buy one of these for TV streaming. I was about to pull the trigger on this one for $120 (N100, 512GB, 16GB RAM) that also has USB-C.
The one in this post is ~$15 more - is it any better?

There is negligible difference between N100 and N150. At this point it's about which "brand" you trust more.

The one in this post has a fan and it is very quiet. The one in your link is fanless. Which can be bad if you push it with streaming 4k content with only passive cooling.

I saw a YT review that said the 100 is better for a mini server because the cpu uses less power than the 150

Windows 11 IS spyware. It has a key logger built in and Co-pilot is spyware that should be disabled in the editor (see AskWoody). Co-pilot is worse in Windows 11 than 10 and will be amped up by AI that M$ wants to push down peoples throats.
