Easiest way is to put the dead battery into the charger next to a working one as you would normally to charge them. Connect the + side of the batteries with a thin wire (paperclip will work if it's thin enough). Tricks the charger into thinking it has the voltage of the one next to it. I keep a short thin wire in my box of batteries and chargers just for this.

If the batteries are completely drained, a smart charger will not be able to charge them. Put them into a dumb charger for 15 min, to bring them back up to a minimum level of charge, then put them in the smart charger again. I've had this happen a few times, and it always works for me. A "dumb charger" is a charger than charges batteries with no regard for the actual battery level and instead uses an internal timer to know when to turn itself off.

So, the same price for something with unknown quality vs an established reputable brand.

better price on the 10pack, came out to be $1.94 per battery: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2JCL...asin_title
Google'd the model numbers between the two offers:
BK - 4MCCA8BA (800mAh) 8-pk
BK - 4MCCA10FA (1000mAh) 10-pk

Seems like just total mAh?

The batteries in the 8-pack have the same minimum nominal charge as the ones in the 10-pack, which is 800mAh. I don't know where you are getting the 1000mAh spec for the 10-pack batteries.

Is the Panasonic charger considered a "smart" charger? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JHKSLM8

It says it can charge both AA and AAA with autodetect feature. That means I don't have to worry about setting it to AAA-charging mode or worry about my AAAs degrading faster than normal because they're not optimally charged, right?

I'm assuming that's the case since that charger is specifically designed for Panasonic Eneloop.

Eneloop (Panasonic) are the best rechargeable batteries you can buy. I've some still going strong after 10 years. I have never had one go bad.
I have a pair of AAA from when they were still Sanyo Eneloops with the light green label( 2nd generation) from Costco that finally gave up on me but the rest I have from that generation are still just fine 15 years later.

So,

If you can find this (which you more than likely will not) it is the best in my opinion...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000RSO...le_28&th=1

But this works just fine as well...

Subscribe & Save does not appear to be required for the $15.99 price. I was able to do one-time purchase. S&S is also $15.99, but who would S&S for reusable batteries?
I also did S&S to save five percent. I'll cancel it once I get the batteries.

These are pretty much obsolete, go with lithium.
Calling these "pretty much obsolete" is extreme.

Anyone with kids lol. Until my sister had my nephews, I would've said the same thing… but kids loose so much stuff.

1.5V lithium rechargeables have less runtime, require a special charger, and their output falls off a cliff suddenly, with little warning. Still, they're the only game in town if you want 1.5V rechargeable AAAs.

Same. I just heard it a couple weeks ago from someone who just bought the IKEA batteries so I bought Eneloop.
Were the new IKEA's made in Japan? Previous posts have said there is only one rechargeable battery factory in Japan, so if they are labeled "Made in Japan", they should be the same as these Panasonics.

Until about a week ago this is what I thought as well. Someone posted that IKEA had changed. I didn't buy them and got the Eneloops instead because of this.

You got a charger for lithium or cheap cells?

I've been looking quite a bit, but can find no info about the change online. I will believe it when someone posts a photo of the "new" ones.
