Easiest way is to put the dead battery into the charger next to a working one as you would normally to charge them. Connect the + side of the batteries with a thin wire (paperclip will work if it's thin enough). Tricks the charger into thinking it has the voltage of the one next to it. I keep a short thin wire in my box of batteries and chargers just for this.

If the batteries are completely drained, a smart charger will not be able to charge them. Put them into a dumb charger for 15 min, to bring them back up to a minimum level of charge, then put them in the smart charger again. I've had this happen a few times, and it always works for me. A "dumb charger" is a charger than charges batteries with no regard for the actual battery level and instead uses an internal timer to know when to turn itself off.

So, the same price for something with unknown quality vs an established reputable brand.

1.5V lithium rechargeables have less runtime, require a special charger, and their output falls off a cliff suddenly, with little warning. Still, they're the only game in town if you want 1.5V rechargeable AAAs.
If you don't mind going a little higher, NiZn (nickel-zinc) is 1.6V (not that I'd actually recommend them).

if you don't have a "dumb" charger, you can also take a healthy charged battery and put it minus to minus and closed the connection with a pair of metal tongs for about 10 secs. this will juice the dead battery enough to put in a charger to detect. Also if a battery doesn't charge very much, try doing a refresh if your charger has that feature. it basically drains the battery and charges it a few times.
which charge would have these kinds of features? thanks

I have Eneloops and and EBL and Amazon Basic. Yes, Eneloops hold up really well as far as original capacity. EBLs' are half price. Did not have them as long as the Eneloops so cannot tell how well they hold up. But are the Eneloops worth twice the cost of the EBLs?

don't be surprised if your 8 pack shows up open a crack,
with one of the batteries that had obviously been charged.
i caught a sale a months ago on a new aa 6 pack like that,
so it may be why it's being discounted.

Were the new IKEA's made in Japan? Previous posts have said there is only one rechargeable battery factory in Japan, so if they are labeled "Made in Japan", they should be the same as these Panasonics.
There is only one factory in Japan, but that doesn't make all batteries that come from it "the same". Some might be straight up rebranded, but often people report slight differences suggesting some are older gens or are cells that don't meet the higher QC standards for someone like Eneloop, but are still plenty good. Ultimately if it's made in Japan, it's made in the one factory and you can trace it to a manufacturing facility that has standards.

Chinese cells might be fine, but you're way more likely to run into issues and who knows where those were made, with what, by whom and what their standards are. Does this mean all Chinese cells are crap? No. Does it mean all Japanese cells will be perfect? Also no. But what it does mean is Japanese cells on average tend to be far more reliable and consistent because they all come from the same place.

My Eneloop and Made in Japan Energizer and Duracells are all going strong after many years. My IKEA LADDAs are from Japan as well and they're newer, but so far so good. I know IKEA has had Chinese cells before so it's possible they swap from time to time (Energizer and Duracell also change manufacturing countries without changing the packaging, so you always have to check). But last I knew IKEA were back to Japan and use gray wrappers and have slightly increased capacity over the previous Chinese made gen that I think were brown wrappers.

The same "unknown" quality lipo packs are used on all rechargeable consumer electrics. Look around your house and see how many rechargeable made in China devices you have. They're all using the same spooky very Chinese cells.

I had a car battery totally dead I hooked a spare battery in parallel got the charger started then removed the spare battery. Since the voltages are way lower you could try aluminium foil.

I've had both Panasonic and IKEA batteries for a while, and in my experience they are functionally the same.

according to the 3 C's, the 10 pack has always been under $20 for the past 6 months. Not sure why this such a hot deal

I don't want to derail the thread, but can anyone recommend a good charger for these batteries?I'm finally getting back into rechargeable batteries after just tossing a bunch of leaking "10-year guarantee" Duracells (never again!), I know these are a quality brand based on previous deals and comments, that don't leak, and I just need a good charger to pair with them. I plan to get AA's too, when a deal rolls around.
Duracells are the worst when it comes to leaking.

Just bought haven't used but extremely good reviews everywhere you go but not cheap but cheaper than AMZ ATM.
