How does this work as in what "time" does it begin ?
It starts when you let go of it, you just turn it for however many minutes you want it on. That's why it's $5. Also less stuff to break. I kind of like this style vs the ones where you program them, because the default is no water. Depending on what you're growing, you don't really want to water daily, since less frequent deep waterings help promote deeper root growth. So if you're establishing some shrubs, or have a vegetable garden, this would be a nice way to give them a soak if it's been a while between rains. If you're working on a lawn and need consistent water for germination, the extra work of this probably isn't worth the savings.

So the start time is when you set it and then every 24 hours from then ?
Or is it manual start each time ?

You manually set how long it will water, not when it will start to water, not how many times it waters per month. You control the frequency/when and it controls how long the session is.

Manual. It's just like one of the old analog plastic kitchen timers that you rotate to the number of minutes you want and then it counts down and dings, except here it turns the water off. I have turned on an oscillating sprinkler in the backyard in the evening and gone to bed without turning it off. This is perfect for that scenario.
I have one of these for 6 years, using it frequently in the summer for a lawn sprinkler. It still works well, while other programmable timers didn't last.
I use these when I'm refilling my in ground pool . If I just need to add a couple inches of water, I'll set it for 45 minutes or so and it turns off by itself. On more than one occasion, I've accidentally forgotten that I was refilling so this was amazing

It's manual each time. You rotate the dial from 0 to 120 minutes and it starts until the time runs out and it stops. Pretty simple and easy to use if applicable to your use case.

No need to ask. I just said to my wife, I need to grab this for the next time I have to fill the pool and my alarm is set to am instead of pm. 😂
