I've had this drive for a couple years in a portable enclosure to move large volumes of video, and do so often. Plenty fast unless you need the latest pcie 5.0 spec. Been reliable, zero issues, flash is still reporting 100%.

The lack of DRAM is a non-issue unless you plan on filling the drive to near-max capacity (which you really shouldn't do with ANY hdd/ssd). Sometimes I do max out drives, so I side-step this problem by partioning off an extra 5-10% capacity before ever using the drive. I've filled several different ssd brands to 90%+ capacity, and speeds typically remain high as long as the controller has a bit of extra unused storage to work with.

Not sure I'd pay this price for a pcie 4.0 though since I'm pretty sure the newer Lexar 1090 pcie 5.0 was on sale during Prime Day for a similar price.

I was considering getting an external gen 5 drive. I bought one of those sabrent usb 3.2 gen 2x2 enclosures and put a 4tb gen 4 in it and got it plugged into a standard 10gbps port on my MB, It's great, I get nearly the full advertised speed for the drive up and down. My board has a usb-c 20gb plug I can utilize, it's probably a usb-c gen 2x2 right? The sabrent drive says it supports up to 20gb so theoretically it should be able to fully take advantage of a gen 5 drive right?

No, not even remotely. USB speeds are in bits per second, SSD's are rated in Bytes per second. A USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port is capable of 20Gb/s, which is only 2.5GB/s. Even some Gen 3 NVMe drives can exceed that. Putting a Gen 5 SSD in a USB enclosure would be a complete and utter waste.
