Another Acemagic sub-brand which various tech sites have found to have unremoveable malware on their mini-pcs even after a reformat and bios flash. Not a very trustworthy company. Avoid

It's removable and it was on a select few that were setup by a 3rd party not the company. Somehow it turned into a firmware virus but that never was the case only a rumor.

"Recent reports indicate that some AceMagic mini PCs were shipped with pre-installed malware, specifically the Bladabindi and Redline families. These are designed to steal sensitive information such as passwords from browsers and wallets, log keystrokes, and extract data from the infected system. The malware was found in the Windows recovery folder and is difficult to remove through typical resets or reinstallations. Some users and reviewers identified the malware in AceMagic models like the AD08, AD15, and S1.

AceMagic has stated that the issue was due to unverified code added by a previous supplier and claims the problem has been resolved in current stock. They offer a clean system image for reinstalling the OS and a potential refund for affected devices manufactured between September and November 2023. "

Can you give me a reference that GMKtec is an ace magic sub-brand?

I'm not sure there is one. someone made that allegation before and I could find a connection between AceMagic and several other brands, but not for GMKtec. As others suggested above, the extent of the malware (spyware from what I read) also tends to be overblown.

Nope. Please stop saying this over and over again.
It was a 3rd party who did that.

Thanks. Well, I know there's some relation between Kamrui and AceMagic since their stuff is cross listed on their eBay pages. It's probably like Minisforum selling mini pcs as 'Kodlix' in Germany. But I wasn't aware of AceMagic being linked to any other brands.
It seems kinda libelous to randomly make claims about the company but I guess Acemagic will have to live with it for some time. But from what I understand of Chinese manufacturing, importers like Acemagic directly subcontract a bunch of motherboards, cables, screws, washers, etc from specialized factories. There's not really suppliers there that manage the hardware and software suppliers and do the background checking like in the US market so some bad actors can pop up here and there. It would be logical to think that Acemagic is extra careful and will be a more secure company to buy from now but I guess there's always a risk of another incident.

How well will this function as a htpc? Can it stream Netflix and others at 4K?
