I've taken apart the S5, S5 Max, and S7 MaxV Ultra.

It's 5 screws to access the battery, and the wheels. The wheels are 2-3 screws if I remember correctly and are drop in parts.

There's one screw with a piece of white tape on it.

Clearly you've never taken one of these apart, these are very simple to dissemble and reassemble and there's always plenty of videos on how to do so.

Have you? I don't own any of these to take apart. Maybe you could share some videos because I can hardly find any. Most only show basic maintenance (bin empty, roller cleaning and replacement). The few I have found shows you having to take out a gazillion screws on both the top and bottom of the robot just to get to a wheel replacement for example. And I think even the one I watched the wheel was basically attached to the chassis. I even see "security" screws on some videos that are probably used to void any warranty. Not a good look.

I have had a roomba 560 for 13 years that still works perfectly after replacing drop-in parts from ebay or irobot over the years. The modularity of those bots is amazing. Would these Roborock last as long? From reports I see online and in videos, doesn't look like it.

Granted, irobot bots are vastly overpriced considering the features they have, I just like my stuff to last.

LIDAR is kind of an older technology now. It used to cause them not to attempt going under couch skirts or low hanging curtains. Something a normal bot would have no trouble with. Has this improved in recent LIDAR models?Tempting though, we have a Bessel upright mop. I wonder if these mopping robots could replace it.
Lidar is "old" but its the main navigational method for most robot vacuums. What you're describing with a couch skirt would be hard pressed to find a solution in your average robot vacuum. Basically it will detect an object (the skirt) either with a camera or with light sensor (lidar) and not attempt to drive through it. That's actually a good thing or it would run into all the walls and furniture too.
Roborocks use lidar and camera sensors to determine position and navigate around. They are fairly accurate and can determine if there is something in the way and go around it.
Mopping is not so great. I have it and use it, but it basically is the same as wiping down your floor with a damp rag. Its better than nothing but its not going to replace your Bissel mop. I have one too for when I really need to mop, which is less often with the roborock vacuuming daily and mopping weekly.

Lol dude you are hilarious. Each post just shows you don't know what you are talking about.

Go to Wikipedia or Gemini even and get smart.

Lidar is literally one of the best technologies for close range 3d mapping. What do you think is better alternative; because NASA, the United States military, any reputable self driving company....might disagree with you Wink. (Hint: trick question.....there isn't a better technology for this application)

I am crying over here in laughter.

Sounds like you haven't used any robot vacuums made in the past 10 years

Quote from Xamindar : I don't understand why everyone here likes this brand so much. I looked up how repairable they are and they are about as unlikely to be repairable as any other cheap Chinese brand. All the parts are put in with a gazillion screws and wires, with you needing to take the thing almost entirely apart just to replace a specific motor. At least iRobot parts are all modular so you don't have to buy an entirely new vacuum bot every year when a wheel gets stuck. I've had mine for 5 years and I have a Samoyed so this thing runs twice a day. I had to replace a motor a couple years back and it was no big deal, it came with the motor and whole wheel assembly. Parts are readily available on Amazon and AliExpress. This year I replaced the 5 year old battery which only took a couple minutes. In general the cleaning performance, pathing, mapping, object detection is better than anything iRobot has.
People like these becasue they miles ahead in terms of the features you get for the price. I had a bump and run iRobot after owning a eufy. I really liked the eufy but it basically ran iteself to dealth and was not really designed to be repairable. The iRobot was very durable and had good suction but struggled to dock itself, was loud, constantly banged into things and could not even be scheduled to run on its own. Robot vacuums are not meant to be a miele for deep cleaning. They're made to pick up excess pet hair and crumbs without you having to do anything or even notice that they exist. Features like self-emptying and lidar mapping are massive quality of life upgrades from more primitive models. To get these features in a more durable and user-serviceable machine is at least double the price.

In for the Q5 Max+.

I've had a Roomba S9+ for like 6 years, and it works great (when it works), but there is ALWAYS something going wrong with it and Roomba recently quit supporting it so we are no longer able to get some of the parts that frequently need replacing (wheel module).

Hopefully this new one does a good enough job for us, and the price is nice, being over $1000 less than I paid for the Roomba.

I'm in the exact same boat. Roomba is great when it's not cry about some maintenance bs.

Are any of these better than the S7 max v ultra at mopping? I love my s7 mvu but the mopping is just okay.
