So I pay the full price upfront (or finance) and get the amount back as credits to a $60 monthly plan as a $17 monthly discount for 36 months. Basically pay ~$43 every month for 3 years ...
so if I am not financing, I pay $600+tax for a 128gb variant
then pay $43 monthly for another 3 years.

Better than being blissfully unaware like most Americans are of the opportunity cost of these "free" phone deals that are so heavily marketed.

If you're going to pay $600 up front you might as well go with Boost, and then instead of credits you get a full year of service free.
