Since there were a few dates thrown out there and someone said it was "official", I was looking for another to confirm this.
It's not 100% clear if they'll require activation. This year, they didn't. But they may be cracking down. The Canada's Wonderland passes specifically say that they have to be activated there first, but a lot of Americans bought those to take advantage of the weak exchange rate. So they may have just decided to enforce that for that park only. When they put the rest of the passes up, we'll have a better idea.
Legacy six flags parks passes HAVE to be activated before use as they hand you a physical pass with seperate barcode.
Legacy cedar fair parks DONT have to be activated at home park first and can even be activated online via the parks website and adding /activate to the end of of the URL
My six flags new england pass i activated over the weekend, once i got new pass was able to add it to cedar fair apps and it shows up as gold pass all parks with them.

However, with Cedar Fair's 2026 passes it may be different. As I specifically stated, the Canada's Wonderland passes specifically say on the page that you buy them "PASS MUST BE ACTIVATED AT CANADA'S WONDERLAND". Now that they've put up the Knott's Berry Farm passes, those say "MUST ACTIVATE AT KNOTT'S BERRY FARM". Unfortunately, it seems likely that this is going chainwide.
Edit: as more parks are going online with this sale, it's looking like you ARE going to have to activate your pass in person at the park you bought the pass from across the whole chain for 2026 passes for this deal. So, if you were thinking about buying a pass from some other park that isn't near you, understand that you'll have to visit there BEFORE any other park, including your actual closest park.
For those of us who travel a lot and don't yet know which park we're visiting first next year, this complicates things.
I'll probably just get my pass for SF over Georgia, since I'm going there next month. You can activate your 2026 pass on your visit now. Hopefully, that won't cause conflicts with my existing Worlds of Fun 2025 pass that has already been added to my SF account.
Also< to the moderator team: this deal is NOT dead. It hadn't actually officially started yet. It's coming online at the various parks around the country for online purchase over the next three days. The sale runs until September 2nd.

if I live between 2 parks. But one is $60 and another is $100, I should just buy at the $60 park and activate it there correct?
Is the only disadvantage to picking the park that you initially pick is that those included perks like free bring a friend tickets etc...... those will only work for the original park you picked? Or are those passes good for any park as well?
