These models have AES-NI. Huge difference.
Processor with AES-NI: The RT-AC86U features a dual-core Broadcom processor (like the BCM4906 in some models) that includes the Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (AES-NI) instruction set. AES-NI offloads computationally intensive encryption and decryption calculations from the main CPU, allowing the router to handle encrypted traffic much more efficiently.
Asus routers with hardware AES / AES-NI or similar acceleration
RT-AC86U – has AES-NI support.
RT-AX86U / RT-AX86U Pro – also cited in context of having hardware support.
RT-AX88U / RT-AX88U Pro – similarly referenced.

Models in the GT-AX / GT-AXE / ZenWiFi / AX8 / AC8 series often have modern CPUs that include hardware crypto acceleration, which typically includes AES

i have flashed merlin and tomato on previous routers back in the day. kind of want a buy it for life router, i don't mind spending $$$ on it, I plan on having it forever.
if i have an existing router, can i just plug an ethernet port from it into the 5g router? or would i need to set everything up all over again?
do you run into any issues from t-mobile on it? how much data do you use on a monthly basis?
I use it at an off-grid location with a weak signal so my results aren't indicative of what to expect. The tablet SIM doesn't have any restrictions that I have encountered.

For Asus, it was plug and play. no issues at all. I would recommend having a different subnet rather than the 12 used by Tmobile. 192.168.12.XXX
tmobile to WAN if you want a router attached. You can make it an Access point but I like to control the flow of data though my router. Note that this is a double nat which is no big deal but some gamers may want to create a DMZ zone.
Tmobile so far so good. Speeds vary during the day. From 420 to 580. 40 to 60 up.
No drops at all yet. Ping 16.
All other cloud systems work as well as Chrome remote desktop.
Due to some security issues you might need to have a VPN for some applications since you do not get a unique I address.
Spectrum sucks. I was getting daily 1 minute disconnects.

Anyone has experience with YT? It is $75 for the top of the line plan but the displayed speeds are lower than T Mo
