From some guy on Reddit

Quote :
I've been collecting every flat EDC style light from the more well known brands for a while now. In my opinion, the Slayer is one of the weakest options out there right now.

First, these aren't actually made by Coast, they are rebranding a light made by a different OEM. Recently on AliExpress, very similar lights have been popping up for less than half of what Coast charges for their branded version. See the Sunrei FS700 for an example. It's suspiciously similar in design and features, 100% from the same OEM, and can be had for around $30 while Coast wants $80 for the same basic light.

Also, the concept of having 2 buttons to control the light is good, but the execution is not there. This has to be one of the most nonsensical UIs I've ever had the misfortune of using. Here's how I would have set it up if I were in charge of the design: front button controls power and brightness with long press from off for moonlight, single press from off turning it on, holding while on cycling brightness, and double tapping for turbo. Then the other button should have been dedicated to changing modes (flood, throw, combined with single presses, triple click for strobe). Instead, we get some strange memory mode garbage on the second button that's barely useful, so you end up having to control all the functions with the single front button anyways.

There's also not a huge difference between the flood/throw emitters in my opinion. The flood emitter should have been a warmer white with higher CRI so you have one emitter for indoor use and one for outdoor use with the cool white throw channel (similar to the Manker F14 or maybe even the Trustfire Mini X3).

I don't mean to bring you down if you're happy with it, just that I think there are better options for the money. If you definitely need something with a separate throw/flood channel, that does narrow down your options in the flat EDC style category quite a bit, but I probably would have recommended the Manker or Trustfire lights I mentioned previously over this Coast, or at the very least the cheaper non-Coast branded versions of the same light.

All flashlights with non-removable batteries suck. The Nitecore EDC37 and the Wurkkos HD01 are my only flat-form flashlights (and I have over 300 that have removable batteries).
