Yes this is fine. Don't listen to the other fool. This is fine for engineering courses. They won't be expecting you to come in with high end hardware. You high schoolers and college kids are lucky. Back in the day a $300 laptop wasn't even usable. Now they're overkill for schoolwork.

What in the world were they thinking when put a 4GB RAM stick in the slot?

That it was cheap. RAM controllers now are smarter than they used to be. You can run dual channel up to the amount you have dual channel and then it just runs single channel for the part over that in most cases.

I see Best Buy gives you $50 for trading in an "eligible" Windows 10 laptop towards a purchase of a Windows laptop over $300. What laptops are eligible? Can I bring in any Windows 10 laptop, even with hard drive and they will accept it in store? Will store make exception for a laptop purchase that is 2 cents below the required price?

Need a laptop for school, and really just for school. Is this something I can use for that?

Store isn't open yet. I tried chat, but the person was a complete jabroni. They used the trade-in check that you can see on any laptop page - "Check your trade-in value." The problem is that Best Buy lists a limited # of trade in offers. There are barely any computers eligible for trade-in and the models they have are completely random. Also, most of them don't show $50 even if you do it for a laptop over $300, so that check your trade-in value doesn't take into account Best Buy's current trade-in promotions listed on the link I gave earlier.

I think this is exclusively in store. My experience with Best Buy in-store employees has usually been poor so I feel like I'm going to be dealing with even worse people when I call.

The trade in seems very limited. Couldn't find either of my laptops on the list and no Sony laptops at all

As long as you're just relying on browsing the web and using some office tools, you should be more than good! Just don't tell us you're going to do film production or graphic design!!

As others stated. As long as you aren't in technical stuff or graphics arts it should be fine. Otherwise expect to buy another PC in a year or two.
