Reminder that the efficiency-focused 11th generation mobile CPUs have famously little performance difference between the various CPU models. There were even scenarios in which an i5 model could outperform the i7, as documented and explained here:
https://hardwarecanucks.com/noteb...rformance/

Consider your application and buy for that; don't assume the label means much in the way of real-world performance for 11th generation mobile unless you're looking at Precision laptops with the high-power H-series CPUs.

Good luck!
Jon

They used to be a lot nicer & the grade As used to be really grade As at much lower prices aswell...now they have certainly gone downhill, although they still take care of customers, its no longer as reliable as before...in my case...two times the laptop had to be replaced...first was very bad & second was missing GPU itself..

No, numbers keys…if you type spreadsheets or project plans, etc. That is important…New 🆕 one's w/ are $300 - $500.Also, check processor, if memory serves, any processor older than 12 series cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. Just be aware. If Linux or other OS, go for it, but if you do any numerical data entry, I would wait and get one with numbers keys included…just saying.I tell my clients: remember we are trying to spec a laptop for 3-5 years from now when 4K/8K screens standard…when 32 GB RAM is a bad as 8 GB is now… plan accordingly.
Other than some models that put a number pad mode onto the touchpad, aren't dedicated number pads generally exclusive to laptop models with 15.6" or larger displays?

Note that this laptop will support an automatic upgrade to Windows 11. The general rule is that all 8th generation and newer Intel CPUs are supported in Windows 11.

Do they replace the battery and fans on refurbs before putting them out for sale?
Not at all. However, Dell Refurbished will typically supply you a replacement battery for self-installation if you find your battery health is below 80%.

Good luck!

Thanks. Considering these may be 5 year old machines, one would think the battery may be problematic in the near future.

Does anybody have one? How is it?
One nice lifestyle feature is that, unlike some contemporary Lattitude models this 7420 has USB-C on both sides. In contrast, one of my daily drivers is a 5320 without this feature.

The lid is scratch prone so if you're seeking something that will maintain a clean look this ain't it.

Ultimately I didn't keep my 7420 but the laptop is functional (note that I kept my 5320 with nearly identical specs).

Good luck!

Thanks. Is it mobile? I see the weight but curious if it's as comfortable to work with as a MacBook. On couch, at coffee shop, etc.

With Dell Refurbished I've received all three possible scenarios:
  1. A truly burnt out battery needing replacement. Dell Refurbished shipped a replacement battery.
  2. A unit that was at 100% health as if it never left the shelf in the IT warehouse.
  3. A unit at just barely above 80% health (82%) for which Dell Refurbished refused support/credit/exchange.
Good luck!

As a 14" model this is reasonably mobile. However, this model is NOT slim in any way. Rather, I'd accuse the 7420 of being one of those models designed to look slimmer than it really is. At under three pounds and a size (0.68 by 12.7 by 8.2 inches) reasonably close to a typical letter-size spiral notebook (11 by 8.5 inches) this should fit into most any backpack.

Good luck!

is there any advantage to buying from Dell vs other sellers who seem to carry for ~$250?
I picked one up a month ago on Ebay for 180.00 shipped. It has 16gb ram and 512 SSD, it has the I7 CPU and in nice shape. It came with Windows 10 I upgraded to Windows 11 with no problems.

Lol... guy saying 'I tell my clients' thinks you need an 11th gen Intel CPU for Windows 11.
Try 8th gen, dude, and maybe try to stop misinforming your clients.
